The basics of this position:
Perform installations and upgrades of companion products and required components for the campus Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) administrative system, Ellucian Banner. Perform administration tasks in support of the ERP and associated sub-applications. Install and manage middleware components and web application servers for ERP system. Perform designated Oracle database administration tasks for databases underlying the ERP. Duties include the support of the application systems security, system performance monitoring and tuning of applications, performance monitoring and tuning of Oracle databases; establish operational standards, and recommend hardware and software upgrades. Additional roles include security administrator for granting privileges to ERP modules and manage security classes, and report writer to query and create reports using a wide range of reporting tools and form template creation. Serves as a specialized technical consultant to the technology support staff.
What you'll do:
Installs, upgrades and manages ERP components on Linux systems to include proprietary ERP upgrade tool; installs, manages and tunes java components supporting the ERP and component / companion applications. Installs and upgrades companion applications including compilers, job scheduling software, address correction software and others.
Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains application systems that interface with Oracle and other databases. Monitors and tunes those systems to ensure system integrity and provides high performance, high availability service.
Coordinates and provides middleware support of Tomcat and messaging servers.
Manages tomcat servers, instances and configurations directly supporting the ERP system; monitors for errors and utilization; troubleshoots and resolves issues.
Implements new versions, updates, and patches fixes to application software systems. Maintains detailed knowledge of software trends and advancements regarding those systems.
Coordinates and monitors system security for the ERP.
Analyzes audit logs and takes appropriate action to address anomalies.
Responds to legitimate internal and external requests for security related information.
Routinely communicates with Information Technology and College directors and managers to codify institutional expectations into systems specifications for database architectures.
Develops requests for proposals (RFPs) and coordinates solutions with third party vendors to ensure control of database projects.
In coordination with the Senior Oracle DBA, performs replication, backup, and recovery tasks on Oracle databases.
Troubleshoots and permanently corrects platform problems in a timely manner to provide 24/7 availability of services.
Responsible for managing problem escalation to Oracle and third party support teams as appropriate.
Upgrades databases to new versions as directed; applies security updates and patching as appropriate.
Performs database cloning, tuning and monitoring. Manages Oracle wallets.
Implements new versions, updates, and patches fixes to the database management systems.
Maintains detailed knowledge of computer hardware and software trends and advancements.
Designs and implements business continuity and disaster recovery protocols.
Operates, monitors and maintains redundant data center platforms for a disaster response. Tests disaster recovery protocols and platforms to ensure timely and reliable restoration of critical business activities.
Advises programming staff, Linux and Microsoft system administrators and technical staff on advanced technical aspects pertaining to relational databases and related application software. Trains and instructs functional leaders and users in the proper use of multiple software products to maximize available capabilities.
Participates in the formal system change management process and is responsible for ensuring that Banner changes are tested and perform as intended.
Responsible for the integrity and security of the application and must be vigilant in protecting the access from unauthorized changes and disruptive system processes.
Coordinates modifications, upgrades, new implementation and decommissioning efforts with affected system users.
Participates in and contributes to divisional performance measurements and process improvement initiatives.
Leads team activities to review and enhance workflows.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Education, experience, and other requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or closely related discipline.
Work experience in database design and administration is necessary.
8+ years in an enterprise computing environment of comparable complexity,
5+ years of directly related, full-time experience in administrating Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Oracle applications
Experience managing specific technologies of java and tomcat
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in basic Linux shell scripting is a plus.
Experience in current operating environment and use of container technologies will be given preference.
Oracle Certified Professional Certification, Red Hat System Administrator is a plus. Certification in systems and applications to be supported may be considered an equivalency for experience requirements.
