DESCRIPTIONThe Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI), an organized research unit established to provide education, training, and infrastructure for clinical research in UC San Diego Health Sciences. It encompasses four hospital systems, two universities and four biomedical research organizations. The ACTRI provides clinical and translational research support across a wide collaboration of units. This position applies advanced technical expertise for system integration and engineering to support the needs of the ACTRI groups, and related multiple health research and development activities. Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced systems infrastructure professional with a full understanding of industry best practices and campus, medical center or Office of the President policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues that are moderately complex in scope. Selects methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Evaluates new technologies including performing simple to moderate cost / benefit analyses. This position will be a key member of the ACTRI Biomedical Informatics department and primarily responsible for systems engineering and support of our HIPAA compliant secure research cloud cyberinfrastructure. Duties within scope include operations of distributed computing technologies, complex data integration and analysis for collaboration within UC San Diego Health and other CTSA national collaborators. Will support complex infrastructures for advanced scientific computing and large-scale data management. Integration includes data sources from health electronic health records (EHR), biomedical (HL7) and other data streams. Performs complex cloud services administration tasks, including moderate programming and/or scripting for applications management and automation for Linux/Windows OS. Monitors system performance, security and availability; ensuring efficient and reliable research information services. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training. A minimum of three (3) years or more of relevant experience. Basic knowledge of how to apply technologies and systems to meet business needs. Experience with deploying and maintaining advanced cloud computing (AWS, GCP, Azure) services. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and cloud services to meet business and health research needs. Extensive experience engineering and maintaining research or heterogeneous enterprise computing environments. Ability to apply advanced concepts for data integration and computing needs for interoperability between cloud and legacy services. (such as Linux, Windows Server), and other dependent services. Proven experience in the monitoring and troubleshooting of multi-tiered applications for high throughput and service resiliency. Advanced knowledge in web servers (e.g. Apace, Tomcat), relational databases & database modeling (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle) administration. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to interact and communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with members of a diverse population in person, over the phone, and in writing, including the ability to present technical information in a group setting. Teamwork is imperative for this position. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs. Demonstrated experience in applying configurations for data security and information systems assurance, to meet local health and academic security policies. Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including experience securing server-based software. Strong understanding of distributed computing and database management concepts for data integration and analysis needs. Knowledge and experience in the design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, programming and administration of a multiuser environment comprising of Linux, Active Directory, SQL, SQUID Proxy, Firewalls, NAS, SAN.
