This position is primarily responsible for supporting the University’s PeopleSoft enterprise Oracle databases. It requires an in-depth understanding of Oracle database administration and CWU’s computing infrastructure. It is responsible for the database environments, database security, database patches, upgrades and database access tools, and database process automation. It manages the day-to-day operation of the Oracle databases by ensuring that they are running optimally in a secure and reliable environment. This position participates in departmental planning and is part of a team that is responsible for both long term planning and day-to-day operation of the University’s database systems.
As a secondary function this position will also provide some Linux server support in the area of System Administration.
Oracle DBA experience including database tuning, backup & recovery, database maintenance, installation of database software and patches in support of enterprise database systems such as Financials, Human Resources, Portal or Student Records.
Solid understanding of fundamental database concepts.
Strong desire and aptitude to learn new technologies and additional Oracle solutions.
Solid Unix system fundamentals.
Ability to create SQL & Bash scripts for automation of tasks.
Ability to work effectively with DBAs, Developers, System Administrators, Network Administrators, and customers to resolve problems with application/database systems.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to work independently and on team projects. Thorough understanding of database systems gained through at least 5 years’ experience working with Oracle database systems.
Minimum year experience administration of Unix\Linux servers.
Bachelor’s degree including 27 semester or 45 quarter hours of computer science, engineering, or math courses or sufficient certification or work experience demonstrating equivalent experience.
OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position
Experience working with ERP systems such as PeopleSoft, Banner, or Workday with an understanding of the ERP Architecture, Upgrades, and Application Updates.
Completion of the Oracle Database Administration training path and/or Oracle Certification.
Experience working with ERP or database systems hosted in cloud environments.
Minimum of one year programming experience in a major scripting language in the area of process automation.
