Oracle Database administration primarily related to, but not limited to the University Student Information System. This includes all aspects of Oracle database administration such as installation, performance tuning, monitoring, backups, replication and cloning, new instances, security, maintenance and patching and recovery strategies.
Technical administration of the University's Student Information System running Peoplesoft Campus Solutions and Enterprise Portal. This includes all aspects including deployment, maintenance and patching, bundles, migrations, refreshes, problem solving, performance tuning, etc.
Implementing and maintaining storage structures related to databases including, but not limited to Oracle ASM.
Planning and implementing database expansions and enhancements as well as new databases and data warehouses as required.
Developing policies, processes, procedures, methodologies and standards related to database access, operations, implementation, backups and recoveries.
Implementing related and complementary Oracle technologies such as Data Guard, Grid Control, Advanced Security Options, ASM and Streams.
Developing data models.
Closely monitoring the Student Information System performance and making
adjustments as necessary.
Maintaining multiple information system environments for development, testing, quality assurance, reporting, production, etc.
Knowledge of various Peoplesoft technologies such as Change Assistant, Integration Broker, Data Mover, App Designer, etc.
Working closely with the University system administrators to ensure technical needs are addressed.
Working closely with the University development staff in the creation of new applications.
Working with university functional offices in their day to day operations to identify needs and problems.
Scripting and minor programming for automation of processes.
This is a high level, mission critical position with responsibility for the success and longevity of Peoplesoft and maintaining the necessary infrastructure for the enterprise class student information system. This system is the backbone for the University's academic mission. Admissions, registration, financial aid and student financials all depend entirely on Peoplesoft. As such, this position requires a highly motivated, highly skilled, responsible employee committed to excellence and capable of understanding very complex systems and processes.
The individual in this position needs to have knowledge of both Oracle databases and Peoplesoft Administration. He/She also needs to be able to communicate effectively, have excellent planning skills and needs superior analytical skills.
3-5 years of experience with Oracle Database Administration
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline or the equivalent substantial work experience
Strong Microsoft Windows Server experience
Knowledge of performance tuning, backup and recovery
Strong problem solving skills
Strong planning and communication skills
Self-motivated and multi-tasking person that works well individually and in a team environment
Quick learner and adaptable work methodology
Experience in programming and scripting, particularly powershell and batch
5-7 years of experience in Oracle Database administration
Experience with Oracle 12c or later
Oracle database software upgrades and patching
1 year of PeopleSoft administration experience
PeopleSoft patching, problem solving and migrations
Data Guard, RMAN, backup and recovery experience
Knowledge of other database platforms such as SQL, MySQL, etc.
